Orwell for This Age: Prompt/ContestAnimal World
The idea is this; we are going to continue Orwell’s Animal Farm to address the problems of this epoch in a similar political satire.
I have already started the ‘prologue’ more so to give people a template here is the [link]
. Everything else follows from this part of the story, and the ideas in the description of the piece. Rules and Sundries :
This will be a collaboration write, where members in our group will write and submit chapters, which, the admins and I will judge. You will submit one piece per chapter for us to judge, and you will submit it as a journal. This means, that if your writing makes it through the judging process, it will automatically get a spot in our journal. We will be judging on technical skills (grammar, spelling), prose, relevance, intellect & honesty, but more importantly creative skills. Each chapter should be around 1500-2000 words, altogether we want about 30000 words; this will make for about 15 chapters. The chapter titles should simply be named by the chapter number, i.e. chapter I, chapter II etc. However, people can add a subtitle if they so choose to.Traditional Art:
After each chapter, we will hold a separate contest for art that will accompany the chapter. (As an illustration of the chapter’s main events.) I will set aside a folder for this endeavor, and these pieces will go through a similar judging process, however, the criteria will be more so, based on relevance, and skill. If a piece is allowed into the folder than it goes with the adjacent chapter. I will see if there is a way to add the art piece with the journal entries, if not, I will make a separate journal for showcasing the winning art piece. The title of the piece needs to maintain the story title “Animal World,” and the chapter it illustrates (i.e. Chapter I etc) an artistic subtitle can be added if the artist so chooses.
People have until January 27th for the written part, "Chapter I." The illustrations will be due for February 3rd. Once the fifteen chapters are complete, I will make a folder called “Animal World: Complete” where the winners can upload their chapters, and illustrations.
I want to get an idea of how many people will be looking to contribute to this, so please just leave a comment in this journal stating if you will be writing or making an illustration. For those of you who have not read Animal Farm here is a link to a PDF version, [link]
