Group Goals & Basic ruels

We are looking for essays and writing pertaining to the Orwellian tradition (in the good sense), i.e. dystopian satires, essays that deal with society, politics and literature. We are also accepting poetry and traditional art that deals with the Orwellian criteria. Most importantly, we are looking to carry on the fight against totalitarianism, not only through writing, but through a knowledge of history, and ongoing world events. At the moment the group is looking for members, and we are looking for contributors who can blog about world events and have a decent journalistic sense.

*Basic Rules: Remember, it is best to refrain from ad hominem attack when engaging in debate. Moreover, remember to uphold the principle of freedom of speech. Meaning, that if or when you debate with someone, or critique someone's work that you do so without trying to convict people of thought crime, or for that matter of speech crime. As Hitchens wrote of Orwell, "...what he (Orwell) illustrates, by his commitment to language as the partner of truth, is that 'views' do not really count; that it matters not what you think, but how you think; and that politics are relatively unimportant, while principles have a way of enduring, as do the few irreducible individuals who maintain allegiance to them."(Why Orwell Matters; New York: Basic Books, 2002, p.211)

Orwellian concepts in society George Orwell is perhaps one of the greatest authors of the twentieth century, and one of his greatest novels was 1984. The book was often considered a dystopian novel criticizing the Soviet Union, but he was criticizing the western world just as much as Stalin's nightmare. This failure to catch this criticism has perhaps allowed for western society to look more like Orwell's horrifying depiction of the future. I called for the rifle; it was brought to me quick.

I went in search for the beast which had broken its chain, and

killed the Dravidian coolie, left him there in the muck.

I started down that filthy path; made so by

the seasons cutting rain. Two thousand faces followed

behind me (ready to jeer), through the mud, like blood that sticks.

We were all prisoners of one another. Though,

the faces had the adage of puppeteers.

There I faced it, that internal conflict.

Hello. Like ~KittyTheNekoAlien I'm curious too. Although I have a lot of strong anti-totalitarian opinions in general, none of the art I do rarely touches on it if ever, and the opinions I do have tend to piss people off because they're more than a little ... unorthodox. It's a pretty neat idea for a group though.

Though the invite is nice, I'm kinda curious as to why I was invited here. The story I'm writing may touch on politics in the future, but I am so far behind on it that to try and include it now would seem kind of out of place I think. Even then, it's a sci fi about aliens and stuff...
