| We are looking for essays and writing pertaining to the Orwellian tradition (in the good sense), i.e. dystopian satires, essays that deal with society, politics and literature. We are also accepting poetry and traditional art that deals with the Orwellian criteria. Most importantly, we are looking to carry on the fight against totalitarianism, not only through writing, but through a knowledge of history, and ongoing world events. At the moment the group is looking for members, and we are looking for contributors who can blog about world events and have a decent journalistic sense. *Basic Rules: Remember, it is best to refrain from ad hominem attack when engaging in debate. Moreover, remember to uphold the principle of freedom of speech. Meaning, that if or when you debate with someone, or critique someone's work that you do so without trying to convict people of thought crime, or for that matter of speech crime. As Hitchens wrote of Orwell, "...what he (Orwell) illustrates, by his commitment to language as the partner of truth, is that 'views' do not really count; that it matters not what you think, but how you think; and that politics are relatively unimportant, while principles have a way of enduring, as do the few irreducible individuals who maintain allegiance to them."(Why Orwell Matters; New York: Basic Books, 2002, p.211) *Group Avatar: The picture was taken from, george-orwell.org [link] |
